-The Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins demoted forwards Denver Manderson, Zack Torquato, Martin Moucha, defensemen Andrew Hotham, Chad Langlais, Nick Plastino, goaltenders Patrick Killeen and Alex Kangas to Wheeling of the ECHL.
-Happy 79th birthday to former Penguins all-star forward Dean Prentice (right). Claimed from the Red Wings in the 1969 offseason in an intra-league draft, Prentice spent two seasons in Pittsburgh. In 1969-70, he led the team with 26 goals and 51 assists. His goal total was a franchise record at the time. Prentice was also selected to the all-star game that season and became the first player in franchise history to score a goal in that game. During that spring's playoff, Prentice appeared in 10 games and scored seven points. He followed that up in 1970-71 by once again leading the team with 21 goals and scoring 38 points. Prior to the 1971-72 season, he was traded to the Minnesota North Stars in exchange for cash. In 144 career regular season games for the Penguins, Prentice 89 points, 87th most in franchise history.
-Happy 45th birthday to former Penguins defenseman Fredrik Olausson (right). Acquired early in the 1996-97 season along with Alex Hicks in a deal which sent Shawn Antoski and Dmitri Mironov to the Mighty Ducks, Olausson, one of 15 Swedes who have suited up for the Penguins, spent parts of two seasons with the Penguins. He finished 1996-97 by appearing in 51 games for the Penguins and scoring 27 points. In that spring's postseason, Olausson saw action in four games and recorded one assists. In 1997-98, Olausson played in 76 games and netted 33 points.The 1998 postseason, saw him play in six games and recorded three assists. In the 1998 offseason, Olausson re-joined the Mighty Ducks as a free agent. In 127 regular season game with the Penguins, Olausson scored 60 points. In 10 postseason game, he netted four assists.
-Happy 64th birthday to former Penguins goaltender Gary Edwards. Claimed off waivers midway through the 1981-82 season from the Blues, Edwards ended his 13-year NHL career by appearing in six games for the Penguins that campaign. He went 3-2-1 with a 3.67 goals against average and one shutout. He retired in the 1982 offseason.

-The Rangers placed forward Sean Avery on waivers.
-"I think we have better players than Sean Avery, plain and simple." - Rangers coach John Tortorella.
-The Devils traded forward/Winter Classic "villain" David Steckel to the Maple Leafs in exchange for a fourth-round pick in 2012.
-With Steckel moved off the roster, the Devils are able to sign former Penguins forward Petr Sykora after he attended camp on a tryout basis. The contract has not been finalized.
-Devils forward Rod Pelley, Vladimir Zharkov, Tim Sestito, Stephane Veilleux, defenseman Mark Fraser Jay Leach, Peter Harrold and Matt Corrent cleared waivers. Leach, Harrold, Zharkov, Sestito, Veilleux and Corrente were all assigned to Albany of the AHL.
-The Islanders signed forward Ryan Strome (right), their first-round pick in this summer's draft, to a three-year entry-level contract.
-The Islanders signed former Devils forward Jay Pandolfo. Terms were not reported. He was in camp on a tryout basis.
-The Flyers placed defensemen Matt Walker, Oskars Bartulis and forward Blair Betts on waivers and demoted forwards Brayden Schenn, Harry Zolnierczyk and defenseman Erik Gustafsson to Adirondack of the AHL.
-Two goals by Tyler Ennis led the Sabres to an 8-3 win against Adler Mannheim of Germany's DEL.
-Sabres forward Jochen Hecht was welcomed home in his native country:
-The Sabres signed Matt MacKenzie, a third-round pick in 2010, to a three-year entry-level contract.
-The Bruins received their Stanley Cup rings:

-Despite not having any change in his condition, the Bruins have opted not to place forward Marc Savard (concussion) on long-term injured reserve.
-The Bruins demoted goaltender Anton Khudobin to Providence of the AHL.
-Canadiens forward Travis Moen resumed practicing for the first time since suffering a "lower-body" injury nine days ago.
-The Lightning demoted forward Dana Tyrell (right) to Norfolk of the AHL.
-The Panthers demoted forward Steven Reinprecht and placed defenseman Mike Kostka on waivers.
-The Capitals demoted forwards Cody Eakin, Mattias Sjogren and defenseman Dmitry Orlov to Hershey of the AHL.
-The Blackhawks signed forward Brandon Saad, a native of Gibsonia who was drafted in the second round of this summer's draft, to a three-year entry-level contract.
-Chicago signed general manager Stan Bowman to a three-year contract extension.
-The Blackhawks demoted forward Jeremy Morin to Rockford of the AHL.
-The Predators placed defenseman Francis Bouillon (concussion) and forward Mike Fisher (shoulder) on injured reserve and demoted defenseman Kyle Wilson to Milwaukee of the AHL.
-Red Wings defensemen Doug Janik, Garnet Exelby, Logan Pyett, former Penguins forward Chris Conner and goaltender Joey MacDonald (right) cleared waviers and were demoted to Grand Rapids of the AHL.

-Canucks forward Aaron Volpatti overcame burns to 35 percent of his body to reach the NHL.

-Calgary captain Jarome Iginla proclaimed himself ready to play after he missed most of training camp due to a back injury.
-Oilers forward Gilbert Brule cleared waivers and was demoted to Oklahoma City of the AHL.
-In the aftermath of last season's Stanley Cup riots, the Canucks are using a very civic-minded marketing theme this season involving first responders.
-Former Blackhawks defenseman Jordan Hendry (right) signed a professional tryout contract with the Houston Aeros, Minnesota's AHL affiliate. Hendry, a member of Chicago's 2010 Stanley Cup championship, was in Minnesota's training camp on a tryout basis.
-An overtime goal by captain Ryan Getzlaf gave the Ducks a 4-3 win against Jokerit of Finland's SM-liiga.
-Goals by Brad Richardson and Ethan Moreau led the Kings to a 5-4 win against the Hamburg Freezers of Germany's DEL.

-If the Rangers demote Sean Avery to a minor league team, the Stars would be free of his $1.9 million salary cap hit. Dallas signed Avery in 2008 but following a suspension, arranged for the Rangers to claim him off waivers. The move split his salary between the Stars and Rangers. Should Avery be demoted, the Stars could be in danger of falling below the salary cap floor.
-NHL fans in Europe might not be able to watch any games due to a broadcasting dispute.
