The Penguins, hockey and more, by the PG's Seth Rorabaugh. |

The fact that Evgeni Malkin scored a shootout goal last night was a bit surprising considering Malkin has been snakebit throughout his career in shootout and penalty shot situations. Prior to last night, he was 7 for 29 (24.1 %) in shootout chances.
What wasn't surprising is that the Penguins won in a shootout. Since it was implemented in the 2005-06 season, only two teams have won more games in the shootout than the Penguins:
| Team | Shootout Wins |
| 1. Rangers | 46 |
| 2. Stars | 44 |
| 3. Penguins | 43 |
| 4. Devils | 42 |
| 5. Oilers | 41 |
| 6. Kings | 40 |
| 7. Avalanche | 37 |
| Jets/Thrashers | 37 |
| Islanders | 37 |
| 10. Coyotes | 36 |
| Sabres | 36 |
