-A hat trick and an assist by Phil Kessel helped the Maple Leafs beat the rival Senators, 6-5. Joffre Lupul added a goal and two assists for Toronto while James Reimer stopped 27 shots in the victory. Captain Daniel Alfredsson scored two goals for Ottawa.

-Two goals by Luke Adam led the Sabres to a 4-2 win against the Kings in Berlin. Nathan Gerbe and Thomas Vanek each recorded two assists for Buffalo while Ryan Miller made 31 saves in the win. Anze Kopitar scored both of Los Angeles' goals.

-Canadiens defenseman Chris Campoli is expected to be sidelined several months due to a torn hamstring.
-Montreal demoted defenseman Joe Callahan to Hamilton of the AHL.
-An overtime goal by Mike Green gave the Capitals a 4-3 win against the Hurricanes. Nicklas Backstrom recorded two assists for Washington while Michall Neuvirth made 28 saves in the victory. Captain Eric Staal netted two goals and an assist for Carolina.

-In his debut with the franchise, Jose Theodore made 27 saves for the Panthers in a 2-0 shutout of the Islanders. Brian Campbell recorded two assists for Florida.
-The Jets make their long-awaited return to the NHL tonight.
-As if Thrashers fans in Atlanta didn't feel screwed over enough, the NHL is now blacking out Predators and Hurricanes games for Center Ice customers in that market since they're now considered "home" games.
-Former Penguin Ty Conklin made 29 saves for the Red Wings in a 3-0 shutout of the Avalanche. Fire Ray Shero. Pavel Datsyuk added a goal and an assist for Detroit while teammate Danny Cleary recorded two assists.
-Goal of the Night: Detroit's Henrik Zetterberg against Colorado's Semyon Varlamov:
-Two goals and two assists by David Legwand led the Predators to a 4-2 win at St. Louis. Craig Smith added a goal and two assists for Nashville while Pekka Rinne made 31 saves in the victory.
-Nashville's Zach Stortini and St. Louis' Ryan Reaves had issues:

-Pregame ceremonies in St. Louis:

-Predators forward Martin Erat did not play due to an "upper-body" ailment.
-Dave Bolland scored two goals for the Blackhawks in a 5-2 defeat of the Stars. Patrick Sharp added a goal and an assist for Chicago while Corey Crawford made 21 saves in the win.
-Chicago captain Jonathan Toews being popular:

-The Blackhawks recalled forward Marcus Kruger from Rockford of the AHL and demoted forward Brandon Pirri to Rockford.
-Statues of Blackhawks greats Bobby Hull and Stan Mikita will be unveiled outside the United Center Oct. 22.
-The Red Wings recalled defenseman Brendan Smith from Grand Rapids of the AHL and placed defenseman Mike Commodore (knee) on injured reserve. Smith will serve a five-game suspension.
-In his debut with the franchise, Dany Heatley collected a goal and an assist for the Wild in a 4-2 defeat of the Blue Jackets. Pierre-Marc Bouchard recorded two assists for Minnesota which scored two power-play goals in the head coaching debut of former Penguins assistant Mike Yeo. Niklas Backstrom made 29 saves in the victory.

-Eric Levine made 29 save for the Robert Morris men's team in a 2-1 defeat of Mercyhurst.
-Brianna Delaney had two goals and an assist for the Robert Morris women's team which beat Lindenwood, 7-2.
