-Penguins player development coach Bill Guerin will serve as an assistant coach for the U.S. Men's National Select Team.
-The Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins signed forward Matt Rust to a professional tryout contract. He is the younger brother of Penguins prospect Bryan Rust.
-Happy 36th birthday to former Penguins forward Randy Robitaille (right). Claimed off waivers from the Kings midway through the 2001-02 season, Robitaille spent parts of two seasons in Pittsburgh. He finished 2001-02 by appearing in 40 games for the Penguins and scored a respectable 30 points. After 41 games and 17 points in 2002-03, Robitaille was dealt at the trade deadline to the Islanders in exchange for a draft pick. In 81 games for the Penguins, Robitaille scored 47 points.
-Happy 46th birthday to former Penguins defenseman J.J. Daigneault. Acquired at the 1996 trade deadline in a deal which sent a draft pick to the Blues, Daigneault spent parts of two seasons in Pittsburgh. He finished 1995-96 by appearing in 13 games for the Penguins and scoring six points. In 17 playoff games that spring, he scored 10 points. After 53 games and 17 points in 1996-97, Daigneault was traded to the Mighty Ducks in exchange for Garry Valk. In 66 regular season games with the Penguins, Daigneault scored 23 points. He currently serves as an assistant coach for the Hartford Wolfpack, the Rangers' AHL affiliate.

-The Bruins signed forward Rich Peverly to a three-year contract extension worth a total of $9.75 million. He will have a salary cap hit of $3.25 million.
-Bruins forward David Krejci is dealing with an undisclosed injury.
-Boston demoted defenseman Andrew Bodnarchuk and forward Josh Hennessy to Providence of the AHL.
-Sabres forward Jochen Hecht was given medical clearance for contact for the first time since suffering a concussion in training camp.
-Canadiens forward Mike Cammalleri (right) is expected to be sidelined 10 to 14 days due to a laceration on his leg.
-The Hurricanes are trying to rebound off a 0-2-1 start.
-The Blues claimed defenseman Taylor Chorney, the son of former Penguin Marc Chorney, off waivers from the Oilers and placed defenseman Carlo Colaiacovo (concussion) on injured reserve.
-The Predators claimed forward Brian McGrattan off waivers from the Ducks.
-After a brutal 2010-11 season, it's so far, so good for Vancouver defenseman Keith Ballard in 2011-12.
-The Ducks demoted goaltender Jeff Deslauriers and defenseman Kyle Cumiskey to Syracuse of the AHL.
-Sharks forward Martin Havlat is still recovering from his latest shoulder injury.
