The Penguins, hockey and more, by the PG's Seth Rorabaugh. |
"Twenty Years Later" is a segment with a highly unimaginative name which will appear on Empty Netters throughout the 2011-12 season. We will examine the Penguins' 1991-92 season which led to the second Stanley Cup title in franchise history. We will look back on games on a particular date and catch up with former players, coaches, executives and media members who were a part or around that team.
Today, we look at the Penguins' 4-1 loss to the Devils, Oct. 12, 1991.
At the 12:48 mark of the second period, right winger Stephane Richer put New Jersey up 2-0 on a power play off assists from Stastny and center Jon Morris.
The Penguins scored their only goal just over five minutes later at the 18:14 mark when defenseman Paul Coffey scored from the slot against goaltender Chris Terreri. Right winger Joe Mullen and center Mario Lemieux were credited with assists.
Less than a minute later at 19:07, Claude Lemieux increased the lead to 3-1 with a shot from the left faceoff circle. Defenseman Scott Stevens recorded the lone assist.
Late in the game at 19:15, Stastny scored the game's final goal on empty net. Assists were credited to center Laurie Boschman and defenseman Ken Danyeko.
