-The Hamilton Bulldogs demoted goaltender Peter Delmas and defenseman Olivier Malka to Wheeling of the ECHL.
-Happy 61st birthday to former Penguins defenseman Dale Tallon. Acquired early in the 1978-79 season in a deal which sent a draft pick to the Blackhawks, Tallon the final two seasons of his 10-year NHL career in Pittsburgh. In 1978-79, Tallon appeared in 63 games and scored 29 points. Finally, in 1979-80, Tallon was limited to 32 games and 14 points in the regular season and eventually saw action in four postseason games failing to record a point. He was released in the 1980 offseason. In 95 regular season games for the Penguins, Tallon 43 points. He is currently the general manager for the Panthers.
-Matt Read had a goal and three assists for the Flyers in a 7-2 rout of the Senators. Sean Couturier, Claude Giroux and former Penguin Maxime Talbot each had a goal and an assist for Philadelphia while teammate Matt Carle recorded two assists. Sergei Bobrovsky made 21 saves in the victory. Erik Karlsson led Ottawa with a goal and an assist.

-Henrik Lundqvist made 40 saves for the Rangers in a 4-0 shutout at Vancouver. It was his 36th career shutout. Ryan McDonagh had a goal and an assist for New York while teammate Brandon Prust recorded two assists. The Rangers won despite only getting 19 shots on net.
-The Rangers now give up a fedora after games for players of the game.
-The Devils recalled goaltender Keith Kinkaid from Albany of the AHL.
-Ryan Miller made 40 saves for the Sabres in a 3-1 win at Montreal. Derek Roy recorded two assists for Buffalo.

-Senators defenseman and former Penguin Sergei Gonchar is dealing with a foot injury.
-The Canadiens have started a season with three consecutive home losses for the first time since 1938.
-Joni Pitkanen had a goal and two assists for the Hurricanes in a 4-1 win in Boston. Tuomo Ruutu added a goal and an assist for Carolina while Cam Ward made 33 saves in the victory.
-This game went off the rails. When Bruins captain Zdeno Chara tried to fight Carolina's Jay Harrison, Boston goaltender Tuukka Rask sort of challenged Ward:
-"I was surprised, but I didn't take it as a serious threat. My heart rate didn't even get up. Basically I told him to get back down to his own end. And he did." - Ward on Rask.
-The Bruins managed to rack up 72 minutes in penalties. Part of that involved head coach Claude Julien being ejected:

-1980's Goal of the Night: Pitkanen just entering the offensive zone and blowing a slapper by Rask:
-Hurricanes defenseman Joni Pitkanen, a member of the Bruins last season, was presented with his Stanley Cup ring earlier in the day.
-Tomas Vokoun made 20 saves for the Capitals in a 3-0 shutout of his former team, the Panthers. It was his 45th career shutout. Alexander Semin had a goal and an assist for Washington.
-At 5-0-0, the Capitals are off to the best start in franchise history.
-Washington recalled former Penguins goaltender Dany Sabourin from Hershey of the AHL.
-A goal and an assist by David Bolland led the Blackhawks to a 5-2 win against the Coyotes. Duncan Keith and Patrick Sharp each recorded two assists for Chicago while Corey Crawford made all of 14 saves in the victory.

-Blackhawks forward and former Penguin Marian Hossa returned to the lineup after missing one game due to an "upper-body" injury.

-Oilers defenseman and former Penguin Ryan Whitney returned to the lineup for the first time since suffering an ankle injury in December.
-Prior to last night's game, the Canucks paid tribute to former forward Rick Rypien who passed away this summer:

-Jamie Benn had a goal and an assist for the Stars in a 3-2 win at Columbus. Kari Lehtonen made 38 saves in the victory. Columbus has not won a game yet this season.
