-"I feel bad for both of my brothers." - Jordan Staal on Rangers defenseman Marc Staal who suffered a concussion last season on a hit by Hurricanes captain Eric Staal. Marc Staal has yet to play this season due to the injury.
-Happy 60th birthday to former Penguins forward Joe Noris. A third-round pick in 1971, Noris' Penguins career amounted to 35 games and seven points in 1971-72. Midway through 1972-73, he was traded to the Blues in exchange for Jim Shires. He is currently the owner/operator of Skate San Diego.
-Former Penguin Johan Hedberg made 30 saves for the Devils in a 3-0 shutout of the Kings. It was Hedberg's 18th career shutout. Fire Craig Patrick. Dainius Zubrus scored two goals for New Jersey while teammate and former Penguin Petr Sykora recorded two assists. Fire Ray Shero.

-In the wake of Flyers captain Chris Prongers' eye injury, many in the NHL are calling for visors to become mandatory.

-A shootout goal by Jason Spezza gave the Senators a 3-2 win at Carolina. Former Penguin Sergei Gonchar had two assists for Ottawa while Craig Anderson made 32 saves in the victory. Fire Ray Shero.

-With forward Max Pacioretty dealing with a wrist injury, the Canadiens recalled forward Aaron Palushaj from Hamilton of the AHL.
-Sabres forward Brad Boyes appeared in his 500th consecutive game.
-Former Penguins goaltender Mathieu Garon made 36 saves for the Lightning which beat the Sabres, 4-3. Brad Boyes had a goal and an assist for Buffalo.

-Ryan Johansen and R.J. Umberger, a native of a certain Western Pennsylvanian city, each had a goal and an assist for the Blue Jackets in a 4-1 defeat of the Red Wings. It was Columbus' first win of the season. Grant Clitsome recorded three assists for the Blue Jackets while Steve Mason made 30 saves in the victory.

-Oilers defenseman and former Penguin Ryan Whitney left the game due to a sprained right knee.

-Wild forward Guillaume Latendresse is dealing with another groin injury.
-Joe Pavelski scored two goals for the Sharks in a 3-1 defeat of the Predators. Patrick Marleau and captain Joe Thornton each recorded two assists for San Jose while Antti Niemi made 19 saves in the win. The Sharks have won three consecutive games.
-Shootout goals by Michael Ryder and Trevor Daley gave the Stars a 3-2 win against the Stars. Kari Lehtonen made 33 saves in the victory.
