Penguins

-A shootout goal by former Penguin Dominic Moore led the Lightning to a 4-3 win against the rival Panthers. Fire Ray Shero. Steven Stamkos had a goal and an assist for Tampa Bay while teammate Eric Brewer recorded two assists. Dwayne Roloson made 29 saves in the victory.

Central Division

-The Blues fired coach Davis Payne and replaced him with former Stars/Flyers/Blue Jackets head coach Ken Hitchcock. He coached the Stars to the 1999 Stanley Cup title while current Blues general manager Doug Armstrong was an assistant general manager. In parts of three seasons, Payne was 67-55-15.

-Hitchcock, who was still under contract with the Blue Jackets, was rumored to be a replacement for current Columbus coach Scott Arniel.

Northwest Division

-A goal and three assists by captain Henrik Sedin led the Canucks to a 6-2 rout of the rival Blackhawks. Daniel Sedin added a goal and two assists for Vancouver while teammates David Booth and Dan Hamhuis each netted a goal and an assist. Roberto Luongo made 38 saves in the victory.

-The Canucks scored five power-play goals.

-Prior to the game, the Blackhawks had the NHL's fourth-ranked penalty kill.

-Miikka Kiprusoff made 32 saves for the Flames in a 2-1 defeat of the Avalanche. The Avalanche has lost five out of six home games this season.

-With a 1.98 goals-against average, .963 save percentage and two shutouts, Oilers goaltender Nikolai Khabibulin has re-discovered his game.

Pacific Division

-Jamie Benn scored two goals for the Stars in a 5-2 win against the Hurricanes. Michael Ryder added a goal and two assists for Dallas while teammate Loui Eriksson recorded three assists. Kari Lehtonen made 30 saves in the victory.

-The Sharks demoted forward Benn Ferriero to Worcester of the AHL.

Adams Division

-Former Oilers/Rangers/Canucks hall-of-famer Mark Messier finished the New York City Marathon in four hours, 14 minutes, 21 seconds.

-During a recent KHL game between Vityaz and Dinamo Minsk, this happened:
