-Brad Thiessen made 18 saves for the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins in a 5-3 loss to the Norfolk Admirals. The Penguins had an eight-game winning streak snapped.
-Steve MacIntyre pounded the tar out of Norfolk's Eric Neilsen:
-Chris Barton, Paul Crowder and Andrew Hotham each had a goal and an assist for the Wheeling Nailers in a 4-1 win against the Florida Everblades. Peter Delmas made all of 16 saves in the victory.
-Happy 46th birthday to former Penguins goaltender Steve Guenette. A free agent signing late in the 1984-85 season, Guenette spent parts of three seasons with the Penguins. As a rookie in 1986-87, Guenette appeared in two games, went 0-2-0, had a 4.25 goals against average, and a .852 save percentage. In 1987-88, he played in a career high 19 games, went 12-7-0 and had a 3.35 goals against average as well as an. .895 save percentage and one shutout. After seeing action in 11 games, going 5-6-0 with a 4.29 goals against average and an .867 goals against average, Guenette was traded to the Flames for a draft pick. In 32 career games with the Penguins, Guenette had a 17-15-0 record, a 3.71 goals against average, an .883 save percentage and one shutout.
-Shootout goals by Zach Parise and David Clarkson gave the Devils a 3-2 win against the Capitals. Former Penguin Johan Hedberg made all of 15 saves in the victory. Fire Craig Patrick.

-The Canadiens demoted forward Michael Blunden to Hamilton of the AHL.
-Capitals defenseman Roman Hamrlik left last night's game in the second period due to an undisclosed injury.

-Brian Elliott made all of 19 saves for the Blues in a 3-0 shutout of the Lightning. Tampa Bay had a three-game winning streak snapped.
-Two goals by Ryan Johansen led the Blue Jackets to a 2-1 win against the Jets. Steve Mason made 35 saves in the victory which snapped a three-game losing streak.
-Johansen has scored the game-winners in all three of the Blue Jackets' victories this season.
-Columbus's Jared Boll and Winnipeg's Chris Thorburn had issues:

-Blue Jackets forward Jeff Carter was activated from injured reserve after missing 10 games due to a foot injury. Goaltender Curtis Sandford ("lower body") was placed on injured reserve.
-Johan Franzen and Brad Stuart each had a goal and an assist for the Red Wings in a 5-2 defeat of the Stars. Valtteri Filppula recorded two assists for Detroit while Jimmy Howard made 25 saves in the victory, Detroit's fourth consecutive.
-Penguins executive Tom Fitzgerald took part in a ceremony to celebrate the Predators' 1,000th game:
-Predators coach Barry Trotz, the only coach in franchise history, also appeared in his 1,00th career game.
-The Blackhawks are doing quite a bit to reach out to Native American groups.
-A goal and an assist by Lee Stempniak led the Flames to a 4-3 win against the Avalanche. Miikka Kiprusoff made 36 saves for Calgary. Milan Hejduk collected a goal and an assist for Colorado.
-“He’s our best player. He gives us a chance to win every night. It’s a good feeling to be on the same team with a guy like that.” - Flames forward Olli Jokinen on Kiprusoff.
-The Avalanche have lost eight consecutive games against the Flames.
-With Guillaume Latendresse sidelined due to a concussion, the Wild is giving former Penguins forward Nick Johnson a crack on the top line.
-Mike Smith made 31 saves for the Coyotes in a 3-0 shutout of the Sharks. It was his 12th career shutout. Phoenix snapped a six-game losing streak.
-Funny Face of the Night: Phoenix's Raffi Torres:

-A goal and an assist by Simon Gagne led the Kings to a 4-3 win against the Wild. Justin Williams recorded two assists for Los Angeles while Jonathan Quick made 24 saves in the victory.

-Kings coach Terry Murray coached his 1,000th career game.
-With former Penguins defenseman Alex Goligoski sidelined four weeks due to a broken thumb, the Stars recalled defenseman Philip Larsen from Texas of the AHL.
-Ducks defenseman Lubomir Visnovsky will be sidelined four weeks due to a broken finger.
-Will NHL Original Productions be hockey's version of NFL Films?
-Ugly incident here as Ryan Rupert of the OHL's London Knights slashed Sault St. Marie Greyhounds forward and Flyers prospect Nick Cousins in the stomach and began punching him:
-A goal and an assist by Chris Bodo led the Mercyhurst men's team to a 3-2 win against Air Force.
