-Happy 57th birthday to former Penguins defenseman Tom Edur (right). Acquired midway through the 1977-78 season in a deal which sent Dennis Owchar to the Colorado Rockies, Edur's Penguins career amounted to a pretty productive 58 games and 43 points during that campaign. In the 1978 offseason, he retired at the age of 23 to devote himself to religion having become a Jehovah's Witness.
-Happy 30th birthday to former Penguins forward Chris Minard. A free agent signing in the 2007 offseason, Minard spent parts of two seasons with the Penguins. As a rookie in 2007-08, Mindard saw action in 15 games and scored two points. He followed that up in 2008-09 by playing in 20 games and recording three points. In the 2009 offseason, Minard joined the Oilers as a free agent. He is currently a member of the Grand Rapids Griffins, the Red Wings' AHL affiliate.
-Rick DiPietro made 24 saves for the Islanders in a 4-3 defeat of the Canadiens. Matt Martin recorded two assists for New York. Montreal got two assists from Tomas Plekanec.

-Canadiens defenseman and former Penguin Hal Gill was hospitalized due to an undisclosed illness.
-Sabres defenseman Tyler Myers will not be disciplined for this hit against Dainius Zubrus Wednesday:
-With defenseman Mike Weber dealing with an "upper-body" injury, the Sabres recalled defenseman T.J. Brennan from Rochester of the AHL.
-"I am standing behind the university. Our concern and compassion should be for the children involved in these terrible allegations. Whomever may have been involved in any way, anyone who knew anything, they've got to come clean. This is not about covering your ass. Telling the truth now will go a long way toward getting everyone through this." - Sabres owner Terry Pegula on his alma mater, Penn State. Pegula donated $88 to the school in order to help start Division I hockey programs.
-Maple Leafs forward Matthew Lombardi and defenseman Mike Komisarek suffered "upper-body" injuries last night.
-Two goals by Evander Kane led the Jets to a 4-1 win against the Capitals. Kyle Wellwood added a goal and an assist for Winnipeg while Ondrej Pavelec made 31 saves in the victory.

-Two goals by captain David Backes led the Blues to a 4-1 defeat of the Panthers. Jaroslav Halak made 20 saves in the win. St. Louis is 4-0-1 since Ken Hitchcock took over as head coach. Florida had a four-game winning streak snapped.

-Two goals by Mike Richards helped the Kings beat the rival Ducks, 5-2. Teammates Simon Gagne, Anze Kopitar and Slava Voynov each collected a goal and an assist while Jonathan Quick made 35 saves in the victory. Andrew Cogliano scored two goals for Anaheim.
