-Penguins forward prospect and University of Denver will be sidelined six to eight weeks due following wrist surgery. (PG+)
-The Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins signed Wheeling Nailers forward Chris Barton to an AHL contract.
-Patrick Johnson had a goal and an assist for the Wheeling Nailers in a 4-2 loss to the Reading Royals. Patrick Killeen made 26 saves in the victory.
-Happy 48th birthday to former Penguins forward Chris Kontos. Acquired midway through the 1986-87 season in a deal which sent Ron Duguay to the Rangers, Kontos spent parts of two seasons with the Penguins. He finished 1986-87 by appearing in 31 games for the Penguins and scoring 17 points. After 36 games and eight points in 1987-88, Kontos was traded to the Kings along with a draft pick in exchange for Bryan Erickson. In 67 games with the Penguins, Kontos scored 25 points.
-Happy 29th birthday to former Penguins defenseman Nathan Guenin. A native of Hopewell, Guenin came to the Penguins as a free agent in the 2009 offseason. After two games and no points, Guenin was traded midway through the 2009-10 season in exchange for Steve Wagner. He is currently the captain of the Syracuse Crunch, the Ducks' AHL affiliate.
-Flyers captain Chris Pronger and forward Brayden Schenn will be sidelined indefinitely due to concussion-like symptoms.
-The Devils placed forward Cam Janssen (chest) and defenseman Andy Greene (toe) on injured reserve and recalled defensemen Matt Taormina and Alexander Urbom from Albany of the AHL.
-Devils defenseman Anton Volchenkov is dealing with a hand injury.
-"I just want to say I apologize to Tampa. I didn't mean something bad. It's just my celebration. I score a goal and I want to do something unusual, celebrate on ice. I say one more time I apologize to Tampa. I never do this celebration again. It's a good lesson for me. I do some different stuff I have in my pocket. -Jason Pominville's overtime goal gave the Sabres a 2-1 win against the Panthers. Ryan Miller made 22 saves in the victory.

-The Sabres lost forwards Corey Tropp (head) and Jochen Hecht (lower body) during the game to injuries.
-Leopold returned to the Sabres' lineup after missing three games due to an "upper-body" injury.
-The Sabres recalled forward Paul Szczechura from Rochester of the AHL and demoted defenseman Joe Finley to Rochester.
-The Canadiens acquired defenseman Tomas Kaberle (right) from the Hurricanes in exchange for defenseman Jaroslav Spacek.
-Montreal demoted forward Frederic St-Denis to Hamilton of the AHL.
-Bruins forward Daniel Paille will be sidelined due to a mild concussion.
-Bell Canada Enterprises and Rogers Communications combined to purchase a majority share of Maple Leaf Sports and Entertainment for $1.32 billion from the Ontario Teachers' Pension Plan. Included in the deal is ownership of the Maple Leafs, the AHL's Toronto Marlies, the NBA's Toronto Raptors and MLS' Toronto FC.
-The deal could jeopardized CBC's hold of Maple Leafs' games on Saturday night games for Hockey Night in Canada.
-A hat trick and an assist by Dennis Wideman led the Capitals to a 4-2 win against the Maple Leafs. Nicklas Backstrom added a goal and two assists for Washington while teammate Tomas Vokoun made 26 saves.

-Dustin Byfuglien and Evander Kane each had a goal and an assist for the Jets in a 4-2 win against the Hurricanes. Blake Wheeler recorded three assists for Winnipeg while teammate Chris Mason made 23 saves. Jaroslav Spacek had two assists in his debut for Carolina.
-Hurricanes general manager and former Penguins goaltender Jim Rutherford admitted making a mistake when he signed defenseman Tomas Kaberle as a free agent this summer.
-Capitals forward Jay Beagle skated with his teammates for the first time since suffering a head injury in a fight with Arron Asham Oct. 13.
-The Lightning demoted defenseman Evan Oberg to Norfolk of the AHL.
-Former Penguins prospect Angelo Esposito was demoted from the San Antonio Rampage, the Panthers' AHL affiliate, to the ECHL's Cincinnati Cyclones.
-With forward Jordan Tootoo returning to the lineup after serving a two-game suspension, the Predators demoted forward Chris Mueller to Milwaukee of the AHL.
-Blues forward David Perron will face the Sharks and captain Joe Thornton for the first time since he was concussed on a hit by Thornton, Nov. 4, 2010.
-The Blue Jackets demoted forward Cody Bass to Springfield of the AHL.
-Two goals and an assist by Sam Gagner led the Oilers to a 4-1 win against the Avalanche. Jordan Eberle had a goal and an assist for Edmonton while teammate Ryan Nugent-Hopkins recorded two assists. Nikolai Khabibulin made 28 saves in the victory.

-The Flames demoted forward Roman Horak to Abbotsford of the AHL.
