Penguins

-"Obviously, the head injuries are beyond your control, for the most part. It's not like we've got 10 guys out with pulled groins." - Craig Adams (right) on his team's health ailments.

-The Michaleks are brothers. And each of them is dealing with a concussion.

-Penguins forward prospeck Dominik Uher will play for the Czech Repulbic in the World Junior Championships. (PG+)

-The Penguins will hold a public practice at thei outdoor rink they've constructed in the South Side Dec. 21.

Atlantic Division

-The lastest series of "24/7" debuted last night. We're not going to recap it too much. We'll just say Flyers goaltender Ilya Bryzgalov stole the show:

-Islanders defenseman Steve Staios is dealing with a potential concussion.

-The Rangers recalled defenseman Tim Erixon from Connecticut of the AHL and placed defenseman Tim Sauer (concussion) on injured reserve.

-The Devils demoted forward Nick Palmieri to Albany of the AHL.

Northeast Division

-Two goals from Daniel Paille led the Bruins to a 5-2 defeat of the Senators. Patrice Bergeron and Rich Peverly each added a goal and an assist for Boston while teammate and former Penguin Andrew Ference recorded two assists. Fire Craig Patrick. Tim Thomas made 47 saves in the win. Captain Daniel Alfredsson and Jason Spezza each had a goal and an assist for the Senators.

-Fight of the Night: Boston's Milan Lucic versus Ottawa's Matt Carkner:

-Ottawa's Nick Foligno left the game when he was struck on a knee-on-knee hit by Boston's Adam McQuaid:

-Happy times for Alfredsson and teammate Chris Phillips:

-A good look at the lid of Ottawa goaltender Craig Anderson which pays tribute to hall-of-famer Clint Benedict, a member of the orginal Senators franchise:

-Sabres forward Ville Leino will be sidelined several weeks due to a "lower-body" injury.

-The Canadiens recalled forward Michael Blunden from Hamilton of the AHL.

Southeast Division

-Hurricanes forward Jeff Skinner and defenseman Joni Pitkanen will be sidelined indefinitely with concussion.

-The Hurricanes recalled goaltender Justin Peters from Charlotte of the AHL and demoted goaltender Mike Murphy to Charlotte.

-The NHL opted not to suspend Jets defenseman Zach Bogosian for a hit from behind on Wild forward Pierre-Marc Bouchard Tuesday. The league ruled Bouchard turned into the hit and put himself into a dangerous position.

-The hit in question:

-The Jets demoted defenseman Arturs Kulda to St. John's of the AHL.

-Having gotten an NHL team back in Winnipeg, Jets fans now turn their attention to more important matters. Like getting trough urinals in the MTS Centre.

-Thrashers fans are still bitter.

Central Division

-Shootout goals by captain Jonathan Toews and Patrick Kane gave the Blackhawks a 4-3 win against the Wild. Toews had a regulation goal and an assist while teammate Ray Emery made 27 saves. Cal Clutterbuck recorded two assists for Minnesota.

-Kane's shootout goal was... unique:

-Former Penguins forward Chris Conner has earned some playing time with the Red Wings.

Northwest Division

-One game after returning from a concussion, Wild forward Guillaume Latendresse left last night's game in Chicago due to post-concussion syndrome.

-The Wild activated defenseman Marek Zidlicky (concussion) from injured reserve, recalled forward Warren Peters from Houston of the AHL and demoted defenseman Nate Prosser to Houston.

-With forward Brandon Yip dealing with a groin ailment, the Avalanche recalled forward David Van Der Gulik from Lake Erie of the AHL.

-"Dave Bolland has an IQ the size of bird seed and a face only a mother can love." - Canucks coach Alain Vigneault on Blackhawks forward Dave Bolland.

Pacific Division

-Two goals by Niklas Hagman led the Ducks to a 4-1 win against the Coyotes. Corey Perry recorded two assists for Anaheim while teammate Jonas Hiller made 19 saves.

-Save of the Night: Phoenix's Mike Smith on Anaheim captain Ryan Getzlaf:

I think at this point, when listing an injury like you do, there's no need to add the (concussion) part. We'll just assume it is unless you say otherwise. It's getting out of hand.

Now that NHL players appear to not be playing through concussions, and the high number of concussions is becoming apparent, wonder what steps the NHL will take. Soften the body armor? etc.
