"Twenty Years Later" is a segment with a highly unimaginative name which will appear on Empty Netters throughout the 2011-12 season. We will examine the Penguins' 1991-92 season which led to the second Stanley Cup title in franchise history. We will look back on games on a particular date and catch up with former players, coaches, executives and media members who were a part or around that team.

Today, we look at the Penguins' 7-2 loss to the Capitals, Dec. 14, 1991.

The Penguins had a three-game home winning streak snapped at the Civic Arena. Defenseman Sylvain Cote gave the Capitals a 1-0 lead 2:32 into the game with a power-play goal against goaltender Tom Barrasso. Assists went to center Mike Ridley and defenseman Al Iafrate.

Just over seven minute later, Washington took a 2-0 lead off a goal by right winger Dino Ciccarrelli. Left winger Randy Burridge recorded the only assist.

At 13:14, left winger Kelly Miller scored the eventual game-winning goal and made 3-0 off an assist from right winger John Druce.

Center Dale Hunter scored the lone goal in the second period at the 15:07 mark on a power play. Defensemen Kevin Hatcher and Calle Johansson recorded assists.

At 1:48 of the third period, right winger Jaromir Jagr scored the Penguins' first goal and his 10th of the season against goaltender Don Beaupre. Assists went to center Mario Lemieux and defenseman Jim Paek.

Former Capitals defenseman Larry Murphy scored at 8:57 to make it 4-2 off assists from left winger Kevin Stevens and defenseman Gordie Roberts.

Less than three minutes later at 11:25, left winger Dmitri Khristich scored to give the Capitals a 5-2 lead. Druce and Hatcher recorded assists.

At 12:51, Ridley scored to make it 6-2 off assists from left winger Todd Krygier and Miller.

Druce added a power-play goal at 19:11. Left winger Dave Tippett and center Alan May had assists.

Notes:

-Barrasso made 26 saves in the loss.

-The three stars were: 1.) Beaupre 2.) Miller 3.) Hatcher.
