FIRST PERIOD
19:15: Adams smacks Oduya with a solid forcheck in the left wing corner.
18:44: Bylsma's arms are crossed a little bit more tightly than usual with that sweater on tonight:

18:29: Just outside the Winnipeg blue line, James Neal backhands a pass into the offensive zone, Evgeni Malkin chases it down and reaches forward to backhand it on net. Pavelec holds it out. Chris Kunitz crashes into the net and dislodges it.
17:19: Former Penguins forward Chris Thorburn moves a backhanded feed from behind the net to the right circle. Eric Fehr smacks a one-timer which Pascal Dupuis blocks.
16:28: Matt Cooke goes after Antropov with a forecheck in the right wing corner of the Jet's zone. Antropov moves the puck up ice and braces for the hit by sticking a forearm into Cooke's face. Cooke goes down in a daze. Athletic trainer Chris Stewart rushes out to attend to him. Cooke eventually gets to his skates and heads to the locker room with a dazed look. That didn't look good. Antropov heads to he penalty bos for high sticking. Kunitz, Neal, Steve Sullivan, Matt Niskanen and Malkin take the ice.
14:37: Jason Williams fumbles a puck at the top of the slot at the Jets' blue line. Jim Stlater steals it off him and is off to the races. He attacks the net and floats a wrister over the glove hand of Fleury. It clinks off the cross bar. A good break for the Penguins.
14:28: The Antropov minor is kiled. Nothing doing for the Penguins.
13:26: Lovejoy booms a loose puck from the right point. Pavelec fights it off.
13:01: HUGE Save. The puck is played into the Penguins' zone. As Fleury anticipates an icing call. It takes an odd hop to the front of the crease. Andrew Ladd races in front of Lovejoy and chops the loose puck on net. Fleury is in position and fights it off. Wow.
12:44: Fleury is called for tripping Kyle Wellwood. Asham will serve the minor. Cooke, Jordan Staal, Brooks Orpik and Michalek.
10:58: Zach Bogosian controls a puck at the right point and booms a slapper. Fleury knocks it dead. Niskanen takes the rebound and whips it down ice.
10:44: The Fleury minor is killed. The Jets didn't do much with that two minutes.
10:23: Tanner Glass drops Malkin in the Penguins' zone. Asham isn't having any of it and drops the gloves with Glass at center ice. They lock utp and strart chucking rights immediately. Both players land some heavy shots. Asham gets arguably the best of the shots in. Both players kind of look at each other and agree to end the fight out of respect.
10:11: From the left point, Simon Despres slides a pass to Alexandre Picard at the right point. Picard booms a rising one-timer which Pavelec eats up despite having Kunitz fall into him.
9:13: Wellwood puts a little wrister on net from the left side of the cage. Fleury fends it off despite not having a stick.
8:55: Antropov dances in off the left wing to the slot with the puck on his backhand. Fleury sticks with the play and gloves a backhander. Tough save.
7:47: Lovejoy steps up and chops a slapper from the right point. Pavelec boots it out.
7:02: Neal collects a loose puck in the right circle and snaps it on net. Pavelec fends it off.
6:44: From the right point, Michalek sneaks a wrister through traffic. Pavelec leaps out above his crease and kicks it out.
6:01: Go to the net and good things happen. Off a faceoff win by the great Jove Vitale, Picard controls the pcuk on the right half wall. He looks up, hesitates and chops a slapper on net. Pavelec makes the save but allows a rebound. As he swims in his crease, Vitale is able to settle the puck and float it over the arms of a stretched out Pavelec. What an effort. Picard gets the only assist. It's hits 50th career assist. Penguins 1-0.
3:10: After nearly three minutes of stagnant play, Evander Kane whips a wrister from the right circle. Fleury makes an easy glove save.
3:07: Off a faceoff win, Dustin Byfuglien chops a slapper from the right point. It hits someone in blue in the crease.
2:39: Using Niskanen as a screen, Ladd snaps off a wrister from just inside the blue line. Fleury steers it to the right wing.
2:26: The Penguins dodge another one. Off a turnover by Staal in the defensive zone, Wellwood controls the puck on a mini two-on-one against Orpik with Ladd. He flips a little saucer pass over a sliding Orpik. Ladd has Fleury dead-to-rights but pokes the puck wide to the left of the cage.
1:54: Staal has a chance in tight denied by Pavelec.
1:01: Kunitz grips and rips a low wrister from the left wing. Pavelec holds it out.
0:04: Dupuis air mails a slapper from his own zone on the Jets' net. Pavelec knocks it down.
0:00: End of period. Penguins 1, Jets 0.
FIRST INTERMISSION

-That was a pretty sloppy period for both teams. We wouldn't be shocked if players on both squads were already thinkin about having two days off instead of this game.
-The Penguins were lucky to escape with a lead that period. The gave up some excellent chance in tight but the Jets couldn't capitalize.
-Michalek looked solid his first game back. He skated well and seemed willing to engage the opposition physically. He had 6:25 of ice time on nine shifts, one shot and one blocked shot.
-It wouldn't be shocking if the NHL failed to act on Antropov's hit to Cooke's hit. It would still be disappointing however.
-The Penguins have a 14-5 lead in shots.
-Lovejoy, Vitale, Picard, Malkin and Ladd each lead the game with two blocked shots.
-Niskanen leads the game with 7:56 of ice time.
-Byfuglien leads the Jets with 7:30.
-The Jets control faceoffs, 15-9 (63 percent).
-Slater is 6 for 7 (86 percent).
-The great Joe Vitale is 2 for 4 (50 percent).
-No one has more than one blocked shot.
SECOND PERIOD
19:24: Another missed chance for the Jets. From the left circle, Wellwood taps a feed to the slot. Ladd is there and pokes it wide of the cage.
18:44: Michalek controls the puck on the right wing and booms a slapper high. Pavelec takes the shot high and eats it up.
18:07: Blake Wheeler races into the offensive zone on the left wing, cuts to the slot and whips a wrister. Michalek goes stick on puck and forces the shot wide.
16:35: Orpik chucks a wrister from the top of the slot wide to the right of the cage.
15:19: Picard smacks a one-timer from the left point. It hits someone in front.
14:17: Kunitz snaps off a wrister from the right circle. Pavelec fends it off.
11:52: Neal lifts a wrister from the right wing. Pavelec fights it off. Malkin tracks down the rebound in the slot and whips it wide to the left of the cage.
10:49: The Penguins get sloppy in their own zone and the Jets make them pay. After a scrum behind the cage, Wheeler controls the puck on the right wing, circles around and from the right circle, he deals a pass through a forrest of legs and sticks to Alexander Burmistrov in the left circle. Burmistrov jabs the feed by the left skate of Fleury to tie the game. Wheeler and Kane get assists. Burmistrov has six points in six career games against the Penguins. Jets 1, Penguins 1.
10:30: "FLERRRR....EEEEE!!!! FLERRRR....EEEEE!!!!"
10:03: Tobias Enstrom steps up and hammers a loose puck at the net from the left circle. Orpik blocks it.
9:07: Enstrom snaps off a wrister from the left half wall. Fleury fends it off. Ladd is there and pokes the rebound wide of the cage.
7:54: Bogosian sneaks a half slapper from the right point on net. Fleury kicks it out despite traffic.
7:34: Off a faceoff win in the Penguins' zone, Dupuis chips a puck up ice. Sullivan recovers it, splits Ron Hainsey and Oduya and races in on a mini-breakaway. Pavelec fends it off his low wrister. Big save.
7:12: Off a faceoff at in the neutral zone, Sullivan is called for tripping Wellwood. Cooke, Staal, Oprik and Michalek take the ice.
6:10: Byfuglien corrals a loose puck at the top of the slot and booms a big slapper wide of the cage.
5:12: Sullivan's minor is killed.
5:03: Sullivan intercepts a pass in the neutral zone, races up the right wing and cracks a slapper from the right circle. Pavelec eats it up.
4:38: Malkin gains the offensive zone on the right wing, cuts towards the slot and flips a backahnades pass to Kunitz above the left circle. Kunitz whips a backhander on net. Pavelec eats it up.
3:57: Dupuis whips a wrister from just inside the Winnipeg blue line. Pavelec fends it off.
3:02: Sullivan takes the pass on the left wing, he sneaks towards the slot, fends off a backcheck from Byfuglien and whips a wrister wide of the cage. Byfuglien is called for slashing. If Byfuglien isn't lazy mess, he doesn't need to slash there. Williams, Malkin, Niskanen, Neal and Kunitz take the ice.
2:40: Niskanen pumps a slapper from above the left circle. Pavelec fights it off. Glass whips the rebound down ice.
2:02: Malkin controls the puck on the right half wall and tries to hit Williams on a pass with the "Whitney Play" but they can't connect.
1:02: The Byfuglien minor is killed. The Penguins did little with that chance.
0:00: End of period. Jets 1, Penguins 1.
SECOND INTERMISSION

-The Jets got their act together and slowly took control that period. If not for some missed chances, they have a two- or three-goal lead.
-Both goaltenders have been sharp. If you like goaltenders, this has been your game.
-Staal has had a lousy game. A few turnovers, a few spill and just some sloppy play overall. He looks like he's not 100 percent healthy.
-The Penguins have a 26-12 lead in shots.
-Ladd leads the game with five shots.
-Kunitz leads the Penguins with four.
-Niskanen leads the game with 15:56.
-Byfuglien leads the Jets with 15:32.
-The Jets have a 26-23 lead in faceoffs (53 percent).
-Slater is 9 for 13 (69 percent).
-Staal is 12 for 23 (52 percent).
-Michalek leads the game with four blocked shots.
-Bogosian leads the Jets with three.
THIRD PERIOD
19:38: James Neal. 20-goal-threat. Kunitz snaps off a wrister from the right wing. Pavelec steers it to the left wing wall. Kunitz follows up on the rebound and smacks Bogosian off the puck. Malkin collects, takes a tumble and pokes it to the slot. Neal takes it on his backhand, snaps to his backhand, jukes Mark Stuart out of position and lifts a sneaky, quick wrister over the blocker of a helpless Pavelec. What a goal. What an effort by Kunitz. Niskanen won't get an assist, but he had a great pass to set up Kunitz for the inital shot. Malkin and Kunitz get assists. Penguins 2-1.
18:00: Malkin loses his cool and costs the Penguins a power play. Burmistrov is called for elbowing. After the play is halted, Malkin slashes Burmistrov. Just a stupid play. Four on four.
17:33: Byfuglien booms a high slapper. Fleury makes the save but appears a little shaken up by it.
17:05: Byfuglien drives to the net and shoves Lovejoy into Fleury knocking the net loose. The Penguins will have a four on three for 1:05. Neal, Staal, Sulivan and Kunitz take the ice.
16:53: Neal chops a one-timer from the right point. Pavelec fights it off despite traffic.
16:25: A slapper by Sullivan from the top of the slot hits a stick and deflects out of play.
16:00: Malkin and Burmistrov return to the ice. The Penguins still have 55 seconds of a five-on-four power play.
15:46: Staal makes amends for his rotten night. Sullivan taps a feed to Kunitz to the left wing corner. Kunitz controls the play and deals a pass to Staal who snaps off a wrister by the glove of Pavelec. Staal needed that. Kunitz and Sullivan get assists. It's Sullivan's 700th career point. Penguins 3-1.
15:06: And the flood gates are open. Tyler Kennedy beats Enstrom to a loose puck on the left wing boards of the Penguins' zone and taps it up ice. Dupuis picks the puck up on the right wing boards, approaches the net and snaps off a wrister by the blocker of Pavelec to the far side. Pavelec was off his angle badly. That's Dupuis' 10th goal of the season. Kennedy gets the only assist. Penguins 4-1.
14:04: Staal snaps off a wrister from the left circle. Pavelec fights it off.
11:48: Oduya cranks a one-timer from the left point. It hits Picard in the foot and leaves him hopping in pain. He appears fine for the most part.
10:19: Niskanen corrals a puck at the right point and whips it at the cage. Pavelec traps it against his chest.
9:39: Stuart booms a slapper from the right point wide of the cage.
9:17: Burmistov has a chance in the left circle knocked away on a stick on puck by Staal.
8:18: Coming back from commercial, Root Sports shows a replay of Malkin getting kneed in the head accidently by Miettinen behind the Penguins' net. You have to hold your breath on that one.
6:24: Malkin coasts up the left wing, gains the offensive zone, cuts to the slot, fakes a slapper and deals a pass to Despres who booms a shot on net. Pavelec kicks it out.
6:19: Antropov is called for tripping against Malkin. Kunitz, Staal, Neal, Sullivn and Niskanen take the ice.
6:09: Niskanen chops a one-timer from above the left circle. Pavelec eats it up.
4:19: The Antropov minor is killed. The Penguins didn't press the issue much there.
3:51: Tim Stapleton had a chance in the slot but sails a wrister wide to the right of the cage.
2:36: Ladd has another chance from in front of the crease kicked out by Fleury.
1:37: Niskanen dumps Kane in the Penguins' crease. That's two minutes. Dupuis, Staal, Michalek and Orpik take the ice.
0:22: Enstrom chops a slapper from teh top of the slot. Lovejoy blocks it.
0:16: Bogosian booms a one-timer from the right point. Fleury fights it off. Cooke clears the rebound down ice.
0:00: End of period. Penguins 4, Jets 1.
POSTGAME

-This was a weird game. Both teams were sloppy. The Penguins just managed to reign in their sloppiness late and cashed in on a few mistakes by the Jets to take the win.
-All in all, this probably wasn't the best representation of either team. Both teams looked like they were looking ahead to the holiday break.
-The most encouraging part of this win for the Penguins was the fact that they managed to get goals from all throughout the lineup.
-The Penguins' defense was strong despite having a few moving parts with injuries and suspensions. Matt Niskanen continued to look like a top-two defenseman. Ben Lovejoy had another strong game coming off his wrist injury. And Zbynek Michalek was solid in his first game back.
-Michalek had the fourth-most ice time on the team tonight with 20:07 on 25 shifts, two shots and five blocked shots.
-Even if he's not playing with Sidney Crosby, Pascal Dupuis continues to show his scoring ability. He now has 10 goals. To put that in perspective, Alex Ovechkin has 11.
-James Neal has 20 goals before Christmas. That's just staggering when you consider how snakebit he was last season after the trade which brought him to Pittsburgh.
-This game could have taken a totally different turn if Jim Slater cashes in on that first period breakaway.
-Fleury was strong. The Jets didn't get many shots on net, but the few they did were quality chances. Fleury turned away most of them.
-Andrew Ladd was Winnipeg's best player. He had the bulk of the Jets' quality scoring chances.
-Dustin Byfuglien is a horrible defensive player. He's slow, lazy and just not very committed to that end of the ice.
-The Penguins dominated shots, 39-19.
-Chris Kunitz led the game with seven.
-Ladd led the Jets with five.
-Byfuglien led the game with 22:46 of ice time.
-Jordan Staal led the Penguins with 21:59.
-The Penguins had a 35-34 edge in faceoffs (51 percent).
-Slater was 12 for 19 (63 percent).
-Staal was 18 for 31 (58 percent).
-Michalek led the game with five blocked shots.
-Zach Bogosian led the Jets with four blocked shots.
-Steve Sullivan recorded his 700th career point.
-Alexander Picard recorded his 50th career assist.
-Chris Kunitz (122 points) moved past Val Fonteyne (121) for 66th place on the franchise's all-time scoring list.

-Lovejoy, Vitale, Picard, Malkin and Ladd each lead the game with two blocked shots.
