Capitals captain Alex Ovechkin has been suspended three games by the NHL for a high hit on Penguins defenseman Zbynek Michalek in Sunday's game at Consol Energy Center.
Early in the second period, Ovechkin left the ice to deliver a high hit on Michalek in the right win corner of the Penguins' zone. Michalek was not injured on the play.
The NHL's explanation of the suspension:
EN Says: Ovechkin definitely deserved discipline for this hit and we applaud the NHL for making the right call. But we still see several similar hits which escape any discipline.
The league still has a long way to go in regards to consistency.
