Remember when Evgeni Malkin stunk at shootouts?
It wasn't a long time ago that Penguins would groan anytime they saw Malkin get the call in this aspect of the game. Prior to this season, Malkin's career success rate was 24.1, the lowest in franchise history among anyone who had even scored a single shootout goal.
This season, Malkin's fortunes have taken a turn for the better as he is converting 71.4 percent of his chances.
Here are Malkin's year by year shootout totals:
| Season | Goals | Attempts | Success Rate |
| 2006-07 | 3 | 12 | 25.0 |
| 2007-08 | 0 | 5 | 00.0 |
| 2008-09 | 2 | 7 | 28.6 |
| 2009-10 | 1 | 2 | 50.0 |
| 2010-11 | 1 | 3 | 33.3 |
| 2011-12 | 5 | 7 | 71.4 |
