The Penguins have re-signed center Joe Vitale to a two-year contract extension. In the final year of an entry-level contract, Vitale's new deal will begin next season and will have a salary cap hit of $550,000.
Vitale, 26, has appeared in 44 games this season and has 10 points (three goals, seven assists). He leads the team with a 55.9 success rate in faceoffs. Making his NHL debut last season, Vitale appeared in nine NHL games and scored two points (one goal, one assist).
A seventh-round pick in 2005, Vitale has spent parts of the last four seasons playing in the Penguins organization.
EN Says: The fact that the team is willing to invest two years of a contract into the great Joe Vitale speaks volumes for his development and the faith the team has in him. He learned the organization's system in Wilkes-Barre/Scranton, waited for an opportunity and seized it.
Ideally, Vitale is nothing more than a fourth-line center and he's perfect for that role.
