-Two goals by Bryan Lerg led the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins to a 5-2 win against the Albany Devils. Alex Grant and Joey Mormina each had a goal and an assist for the Penguins while teammate Geoff Walker recorded three assists. Brad Thiessen made 20 saves in the victory.

-Peter Delmas made 29 saves for the Wheeling Nailers in a 2-1 win against the Trenton Devils.

-Happy 36th birthday to former Penguins forward Jan Hrdina (right). A fifth-round pick in 1995, Hrdina parts of five seasons with the Penguins. As a rookie in 1998-99, he appeared in all 82 games and scored 42 points. During that spring's postseason, he saw action in 14 games and scored five points. He followed that up in 1999-2000 by playing in 70 games and collecting 46 points. In nine postseason games that spring he scored 12 points. During much of 2000-01, he centered a line with Jaromir Jagr and Mario Lemieux and scored 43 points and in 79 games. In the 2001 postseason, he appeared in 18 games and contributed seven points. Hrdina played in 79 games in 2001-02 and set career highs in goals (24) and points (57) while leading the team with six game-winning goals. After 57 games and 39 points in 2002-03, Hrdina was traded to the Coyotes along with Francois Leroux in exchange for Ramzi Abid, Dan Focht and Guillaume Lefebvre. In 366 career regular season games, Hrdina scored 227 points, 32nd-most in franchise history. In 40 postseason games, he scored 24 points.

-Happy 67th birthday to former Penguins defenseman Jean-Guy Lagace. Originally acquired earlier in the 1968-69 season in a deal which sent Larry Hillman to the Canadiens, Lagace spent parts of four seasons over two separate stints with the team. He finished that season by playing in 17 games for the Penguins and recording one assist. After spending all of 1969-70 with the Penguins' AHL affiliate in Baltimore, he was claimed by the North Stars in an intra-league draft in the 1970 offseason. Midway through the 1970-71 season, he was re-acquired from the Sabres in a deal which sent Terry Ball to Buffalo. he finished that season by playing in 31 games for the Penguins and scoring six points. The 1973-74 campaign saw him play in 31 games and score eight points. After 27 games and nine points in 1974-75, Lagace was traded to the Kansas City Scouts along with Denis Herron in exchange for Michel Plasse. In 106 games with the Penguins, he scored 24 points.

-Happy 31st birthday to former Penguins forward Kris Beech (right). Acquired in the 2001 offseason along with Michal Sivek and Ross Lupaschuk in one of the biggest trades in franchise history which sent Jaromir Jagr and Franticek Kucera to the Capitals, Beech spents parts of four seasons with the Penguins over two separate stints. In 2001-02, Beech appeared in a career-high 79 games and scored 25 points. He followed that up in 2002-03 by playing in 12 games and recording one assist. During 2003-04, he was limited to four games and one assist. Following the 2004-05 lockout, Beech was traded to the Predators in exchange for a draft pick. He returned to the Penguins midway through 2007-08 when he was claimed off waivers from the Capitals and appeared in five games while failing to record a point. In the 2008 offseason, he joined HV71 of the Elitserien in Sweden. He currently plays for Lukko of the SM-liiga in Finland. In 100 games with the Penguins, he scored 27 points.

Atlantic Division

-Two goals and an assist by Kurtis Foster led the Devils to a 6-4 win against the rival Flyers. Ilya Kovalchuk added a goal and two assists for New Jersey while teammates Alexei Ponikarovsky and Dainius Zubrus each netted a goal and an assist. Former Penguin Johan Hedberg made 37 saves in the victory. Fire Craig Patrick. Claude Giroux, former Penguins captain Jaromir Jagr and Jakub Voracek each had a goal and an assist for the Flyers. -After Philadelphia's Zac Rinaldo dropped New Jersey captain Zach Parise with a slew foot, Kovalchuk dropped Philadelphia's Brayden Schenn in a fight:

-“He’s a big, strong, tough dude. You don’t want to tick him off.” - Devils forward Eric Boulton on Kovalchuk.

-Kovalchuk recorded his first career Gordie Howe Hat Trick.

-Rinaldo received two separate fines of $2,500 for the slew foot as well as a late hit to Devils forward Jacob Josefsen.

-The Moose has some issues with depth perception these days apparently:

-"It would have been Tebow time." - Jagr on his team attempting a comeback from a 6-0 deficit by scoring four goals and outshooting the Devils, 24-1 in the third period.

-The Flyers face the Rangers today for the first time since the Winter Classic.

Northeast Division

-James Reimer made 49 saves for the Maple Leafs in a 5-0 shutout of the rival Senators. Tyler Bozak and Phil Kessel each had a goal and two assists for Toronto while teammate Cody Franson collected a goal and an assist. Ottawa has lost six consecutive games.

-This was a road game for the Maple Leafs:

-Shootout goals by Brad Boyes and captain Jason Pominville gave the Sabres a 4-3 win against the Islanders. Ryan Miller made 35 saves for Buffalo. Frans Nielsen scored two regulation goals and recorded an assist for New York.

-Miller moved past Dominik Hasek for most wins in franchise history with 235.

Southeast Division

-Tomas Vokoun made 30 saves for the Capitals in a 3-0 shutout of the Canadiens. Alexander Semin had a goal and an assist for Washington while teammate Brooks Laich recorded two assists.

-Semin used a slapper to score on a penalty shot:

-Capitals captain Alex Ovechkin returned to the lineup for the first time following his three-game suspension for hitting Zbynek Michalek from behind Jan. 22.

-We don't want to say Ovechkin's stickhandling suffered during his layoff... but:

-Montreal's Alexei Emelin > Washington's Joel Ward:

-A hat trick by Martin St. Louis in his 900th career games led the Lightning to a 6-3 win against the rival Panthers. Captain Vincent Lecavalier added a goal and three assists for Tampa Bay while teammate Steven Stamkos collected a goal and an assist. Former Penguin Mathieu Garon made 17 saves in the victory. -St. Louis' hat trick:

-The Lightning won the season series against the Panthers, 4-2-0, for the first time 2003-04.

-Cam Ward made 24 saves for the Hurricanes who edged the Kings, 2-1. Carolina has won three out of its last four games.

Central Division

-Martin Erat had a goal and two assists for the Predators in a 3-1 win against the Blues. Sergei Kostitsyn added a goal and an assist for Nashville while teammate Pekka Rinne made 42 saves.

Northwest Division

-Shootout goals by Sam Gagne and Ryan Nugent-Hopkins gave the Oilers a wild 5-4 win against the Red Wings. Gagner added two regulation goals and an assist for Edmonton while teammate Jordan Eberle scored two regulation goals. Devan Dubnyk made 35 saves in the victory. Detroit's Todd Bertuzzi also collected two regulation goals.

-Gagner jammed up Detroit's Joey MacDonald with a handful of moves in the shootout:

-Detroit's Niklas Kronwall appeared to strike Edmonton's Ales Hemsky in the head with a check:

-Including his record-setting eight-point game Thursday, Gagner had a hand in 11 consecutive points for his team.

-Defensive Play of the Night: Detroit captain Nicklas Lidstrom came through with a clutch block on Oilers defenseman and former Penguin Ryan Whitney in overtime:

-A shootout goal by Mason Raymond gave the Canucks a 3-2 win against the Avalanche. Roberto Luongo made 44 saves in the victory.

-Defensive Play of the Night: Vancouver's Kevin Bieksa dove to prevent an empty-net goal then scored with 34.1 seconds left in regulation to send the game to overtime:

Pacific Division

-Two goals by Lauri Korpikoski led the Coyotes to a 5-3 win against the Sharks. Martin Hanzal and Radim Vrbata each collected a goal and an assist for Phoenix while teammates Shane Doan, Boyd Gordon and Ray Whitney each recorded two assists. Mike Smith made 32 saves in the victory. Patrick Marleau netted a goal and an assist for San Jose.

Norris Division

-Eric Levine made 23 saves for the Robert Morris men's team in a 2-1 loss to Canisius.

-Paul Chiasson and Nick Jones each had a goal and an assist for the Mercyhurst men's team which defeated Niagara, 3-2.

-Kristen DiCiocco made 25 saves for the Robert Morris women's team which beat Syracuse, 5-2.

-Bailey Bram had a goal and two assists for the Mercyhurst women's team in a 3-3 tie with Nigara.
