-An overtime goal by Alexandre Picard gave the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins a 4-3 win against the Binghamton Senators. Paul Thompson had a goal and two assists for the Penguins while teammate Brian Gibbons added a goal and an assist. Brad Thiessen made 20 saves in the victory.

-Picard returned to the lineup after missing 14 games due to an "upper-body" injury.

-Cody Chupp had a goal and two assists for the Wheeling Nailers in a 4-2 win against the Trenton Titans. Andrew Hotham recorded two assists for the Nailers while teammate Peter Delmas made 35 saves in the victory.

-Happy 57th birthday to former Penguins defenseman Russ Anderson (right). A second-round pick in 1975, Anderson spent parts of six seasons with the Penguins. As a rookie in 1976-77, Anderson appeared in 66 games, scored 13 points and recorded 81 penalty minutes. He played in three postseason games that spring and recorded one assist. He followed that up in 1977-78 by appearing in 74 games, scoring 18 points and collecting 150 penalty minutes. In 1978-79, Anderson saw action in 72 games, scored 16 points and compiled 93 penalty minutes. He played in two games that postseason and failed to record a point. During 1979-80, Anderson played in 76 games and set a career high with 27 points and netted 150 penalty minutes. The 1980 postseason saw him appear in five games and record two assists. Anderson was limited to 34 games and 17 assists and 112 penalty minutes in 1980-81. After 31 games and one assist in 1981-82, Anderson was traded to the Hartford Whalers along with a draft pick in exchange for Rick MacLeish. In 353 regular season games with the Penguins, Anderson scored 92 points (89th-most in franchise history) and recorded 684 penalty minutes (10th-most). Anderson also holds the franchise's single-game record for penalties (nine) and penalty minutes (51).

-Happy 32nd birthday to former Penguins forward Rico Fata. Acquired prior to the 2003 trade deadline along with Joel Bouchard, Richard Lintner and Mikael Samuelsson in a trade that sent Mike Wilson, Alex Kovalev, Janne Laukkanen and Dan LaCouture to the Rangers, Fata spent parts of three seasons with the Penguins. He finished 2002-03 by playing in 27 games for the Penguins and scoring 13 points. His only full season in Pittsburgh was 2003-04. He played in 73 games, scored 34 points and compiled a staggering minus -46. Following the 2004-05 lockout, Fata played in 20 games for the 2005-06 Penguins and failed to record a point. Midway through that season, he was claimed off waivers by the Thrashers. In 120 games for the Penguins, he scored 47 points. He currently plays for Genève-Servette of the NLA in Switerzland.

-Happy 43rd birthday to former Penguins defenseman Brad Werenka (right). A free agent signing in the 1997 offseason, Werenka spent parts of three seasons with the Penguins. Debuting in 1997-98, he appeared in 71 games and scored 18 points. In six postseason games that season, he scored one goal. Werenka set career-highs during 1998-99 with games (81) and points (24) and led the team with 93 penalty minutes. During that postseason, he saw action in 13 games and scored two points. After 61 games and 11 points in 1999-2000, Werenka was dealt at the trade deadline to the Flames in exchange for Rene Corbet and Tyler Moss. In 213 regular season games with the Penguins, Werenka scored 53 points. In 19 postseason games, he collected three points.

Atlantic Division

-A hat trick by captain Ryan Callahan led the Rangers to a 5-2 win against the rival Flyers. Marian Gaborik added a goal and three assists for New York while teammate Brad Richards recorded three assists. Henrik Lundqvist made 31 saves for New York. Wayne Simmonds had a goal and an assists for Philadelphia.

Northeast Division

-Carey Price made 32 saves for the Canadiens in a 5-0 shutout of the rival Maple Leafs. Mathieu Darche had a goal and an assist for Montreal while teammates David Desharnais and Tomas Plekanec each recorded two assists.

-Goal of the Night: Montreal's Lars Eller abusing Toronto captain Dion Phaneuf en route to a score:

-Shootout goals by Tyler Seguin and Patrice Bergeron gave the Bruins a comeback 4-3 win against the Predators. Tim Thomas made 19 saves in the victory. Patrick Hornqvist had a regulation goal and an assist for Nashville.

Southeast Division

-Scott Clemmensen made 27 saves for the Panthers in a 3-1 defeat of the Devils. Marcel Goc recorded two assists for Florida.

-Funny Face of the Night: New Jersey's Martin Brodeur was all bug-eyed:

-With defenseman Jay Garrison suffering a "lower-body" injury in the third period, the Panthers recalled defenseman Colby Robak from San Antonio of the AHL.

-A goal and two assists by Steven Stamkos led the Lightning to a 2-1 win against the Sabres. Former Penguin Mathieu Garon made 26 saves in the victory.

-The Jets activated forward Tim Stapleton ("lower body") from injured reserve and demoted forward Aaron Gagnon to St. John's of the AHL.

-“I’m not 100 percent to skate right now.” - Capitals forward Nicklas Backstrom on his recovery from a concussion suffered Jan. 6.

Central Division

-Two goals by Plum native (No really!) R.J. Umberger led the Blue Jackets to a 3-1 win against the Wild. James Wisniewski added a goal and an assist for Columbus while captain Rick Nash recorded two assists. Steve Mason made 34 saves in the victory.

-Save of the Night: Mason on Minnesota's Kyle Brodziak:

-Wisniewski was activated from injured reserve and returned to the lineup for the first time since breaking an ankle Dec. 29.

-An overtime goal by Carlo Colaiacovo gave the Blues a 3-2 win against the Avalanche. David Perron led St. Louis with two goals and an assist while teammate T.J. Oshie recorded two assists. Brian Elliott made all of 17 saves in the victory.

Northwest Division

-An overtime goal by Taylor Hall gave the Oilers a 4-3 win against the Senators. Captain Shawn Horcoff had a goal and two assists for Edmonton while teammate Magnus Paajarvi added a goal and an assist. Nikolai Khabibulin made 39 saves in the victory. Erik Karlsson led Ottawa with a goal and an assist.

-Shootout goals by Olli Jokinen and Jarome Iginla gave the Flames a 3-2 win against the Canucks. Miikka Kiprusoff made 29 saves in the victory.

-Shootout Goal of the Night: Calgary's Jarome Iginla on Vancouver's Roberto Luongo:

-Vancouver's Andrew Alberts and Calgary's Tim Jackman had a solid tilt:

-Flames forward Blair Jones is expected to be sidelined four weeks due to a broken ankle.

-Wild forward Brad Staubitz cleared waivers and was demoted to Houston of the AHL.

Pacific Division

-Mike Smith made 38 saves for the Coyotes in a 3-0 shutout of the Blackhawks. Gilbert Brule recorded two assists for Phoenix which has won five consecutive games. Chicago has lost eight consecutive games.

-The Ducks demoted former Penguins defenseman and Hopewell native Nate Guenin to Syracuse of the AHL.

-Stars defenseman Sheldon Souray is day to day due to a foot ailment.

Adams Division

-Hockey Night in Canada's opening montage had a mellow feel to it:

-HNIC also had a solid montage for Hockey Day in Canada:

-Nick Chiavetta collected a goal and an assist for the Robert Morris men's team in a 4-2 win against Mercyhurst.

-Christine Bestland had a goal and an assist for the Mercyhurst women's team which defeated Syracuse, 3-1.
