The Penguins, hockey and more, by the PG's Seth Rorabaugh. |

-"I'm not in the lineup every night, and I go stretches where I'm not in at all, and my job right now is to be professional and to be ready and excited to play when my number is called." - Ben Lovejoy (above).
-Dan Bylsma switched things up in practice yesterday.
-Byslma speaks:
-Former Penguins forward Mike Comrie officially announced his retirement at the age of 31. In 589 career games, he scored 365 points. In 21 games with the Penguins last season, Comrie scored six points.
-EN Says: Comrie's time as a Penguin was pretty unremarkable, but he was one of the most approachable, accommodating and thoughtful individuals we've encountered in terms of players. We fully admit we kind of had a sour attitude on him when he joined the team. He was a guy from a rich family who held out with the Oilers and forced a trade. And he had the Hollywood wife. It just seemed like he would be a bad guy. But in all reality, he was a tremendous decent human being. The NHL lost one of the decent guys as a player.
-Flyers forward Zac Rinaldo was suspended two games for a charge against Red Wings defenseman Jonathan Ericsson Sunday.
-The hit in question and the NHL's explanation:
-EN Says: As the video explains, Rinaldo was fined for two seperate incidents just eight days earlier. Those slaps on the wrist clearly didn't send a message to this thug.
-The Islanders recalled defenseman Ty Wishart from Bridgeport of the AHL and demoted forward Rhett Rakhshani to Bridgeport.
-The two best teams in the Eastern Conference - the Rangers and Bruins - square off again tonight.
-Hockey Night In Canada put together a pretty fun video piece on Canadiens defenseman PK Subban and his family:
-The Bruins recalled defenseman Andrew Bodnarchuk and forward Josh Hennessy from Providence of the AHL.
-The Canadiens demoted forward Ian Schultz to Hamilton of the AHL.
-Two goals and an assist by captain Eric Staal led the Hurricanes to a 5-3 win against the Canadiens. Jamie McBain added a goal and an assist for Carolina while teammate Cam Ward made 30 saves. David Desharnais had a goal and an assist for Montreal.
-Goal of the Night: Check out this dazzling shorthanded effort by Staal:
-Check out the placement on this shot by Montreal's Erik Cole against his former team:
-Hurricanes forward Tuomo Ruutu left the game due to an "upper-body" injury.
-The Capitals recalled goaltender Braden Holtby and forward Joel Reclicz from Hershey of the AHL.
-The Jets acquired forward Maxime Macenauer from the Ducks in exchange for forward Riley Holzapfel.
-The Panthers demoted goaltender Jacob Markstrom to San Antonio of the AHL.
-The Red Wings can set an NHL record tonight with their 21st consecutive home game against the Stars.
-Shootout goals by Cody Hodgson, Alexander Edler, David Booth and Ryan Kesler gave the Canucks a 2-1 win against the Coyotes. Roberto Luongo made 23 saves in the victory.
-Booth scored a pretty impressive goal in regulation:
-We're not goaltending experts or anything, but we're thinking Luongo didn't play the right angle on this one:

-Phoenix's Jason LaBarbera kicked this puck out:

-Oilers defenseman Taylor Fedun resumed skating for the first time since suffering a broken right femur in the preseason.
-The hit Fedun was injured on:
-Forward Matt Stajan is the only player left on the Flames who came from Toronto in the trade for defenseman Dion Phaneuf.
-The Wild suspended minor league forward Justin Fontaine two games for using a homosexual slur on Twitter.
-Two goals and two assists by Joe Pavelski led the Sharks past the Capitals, 5-3. Patrick Marleau added two goals for San Jose while captain Joe Thornton recorded three assists. Thomas Greiss made 39 saves in the victory. Roman Hamrlik had a goal and an assist for Washington.
-Ugly Goal of the Night: Washington goaltender Braden Holtby allowed this clunker from beyond center ice:
-Check out this nifty re-direction goal by San Jose's Logan Couture:
-Marleau got the drop on Washington's Marcus Johansson:

-Greiss kept his eyes on this puck:

-Stretchy times for the Sharks:

-Sharks forward Tommy Wingels returned to the lineup after missing in nine games due to an "upper-body" injury.
-The Coyotes are giving out Alice Cooper bobbleheads Feb. 18:

-With forward Jason Blake in the lineup, the Ducks are 13-3-3. Without him, they're 9-21-6.
