-Happy 68th birthday to former Penguins goaltender Andy Brown. Acquired midway through 1972-73 in a deal which sent draft picks to the Red Wings, Brown, the last goaltender in the NHL who didn't wear a mask, spent parts of two seasons with the Penguins. He finished 1972-73 by playing in nine games, going 3-4-2 with a 4.73 save percentage. In 1973-74, Brown (right) played in 36 games, went
13-16-4, had a 3.53 goals against average, one shutout and set an NHL goaltending record with 60 penalty minutes. In 45 games, he had a 16-20-5 record with a 3.78 goals against average and one shutout. During the 1974 offseason, Brown joined the Indianapolis Races of the WHA as a free agent.
-Happy 45th birthday to former Penguins forward Craig Simpson. A first-round pick in 1985, Simpson spent parts of three seasons with the Penguins. As a rookie in 1985-86, Simpson appeared in 76 games and scored 28 points. He followed that up in 1986-87 by playing in 72 games and scoring 51 points. After 21 games and 26 points in 1987-88, Simpson was traded to the Oilers along with Dave Hannan, Moe Mantha and Chris Joseph in exchange for Paul Coffey, Dave Hunter and Wayne Van Dorp. In 169 games with the Penguins, Simpson scored 105 points, 69th-most in franchise history. He is currently a broadcaster with CBC.
-Happy 35th birthday to former Penguins forward Ronald Petrovicky. A free agent signing in the 2006 offseason, Petrovicky's Penguins' career amounted to 31 games and six points during the 2006-07 season. Petrovicky's most famous moment as a Penguin came when he knocked out Maple Leafs forward Kris Newbury in a fight (below). The following the offseason, he joined HK Dukla Trencin of the Slovakian Extraliga as a free agent.
-Happy 50th birthday to former Penguins forward Mitch Wilson. A free agent signing in the 1986 offseason, Wilson's Penguins' caree amounted to 17 games and three points in 1986-87. After spending the next four seasons with the team's IHL affiliate in Muskegon, Wilson was released in the 1991 offseason.
-Henrik Lundqvist made 42 saves for the Rangers in a 3-0 shutout of the Bruins. New York has won four consecutive games and six out of its past seven.

-A hat trick and an assist by Ilya Kovalchuk led the Devils to a 4-1 win against the Sabres. Adam Henrique recorded two assists for New Jersey while teammate Martin Brodeur made 29 saves.

-PA Parenteau had a goal and an assist for the Islanders who defeated the Jets, 3-1. Evgeni Nabokov made 38 saves in the victory. Winnipeg has lost two consecutive games.

-The Devils recalled forwards Nick Palmieri and Stephane Veilleux from Albany of the AHL.
-The Flyers demoted forward Eric Wellwood to Adirondack of the AHL.
-Craig Anderson made 28 saves for the Senators in a 4-0 shutout of the Lightning. Jason Spezza had a hat trick and an assist for Ottawa while teammate Erik Karlsson netted a goal and an assist.

-The Bruins signed defenseman Johnny Boychuk to a three-year contract extension worth a total of $10.08 million. He will have a salary cap hit of $3.36 million. In the final year of a contract with a salary cap hit of $1.875 million, Boychuk, 28, has scored 10 points (three goals, seven assists) in 53 games this season.
-Sabres coach Lindy Ruff returned to the bench after coaching from a press box for three games.
-The Maple Leafs placed defenseman Carl Gunnarsson (ankle) on injured reserve and recalled defenseman Keith Aulie from Toronto of the AHL.
Southeast Division-Hurricanes forward Tuomo Ruutu (right), considered one of the best players potentially available at the trade deadline, will be sidelined approximately three weeks due to an "upper-body" injury.
-The Hurricanes recalled forward Drayson Bowman from Charlotte of the AHL and demoted forward Jerome Samson to Charlotte.
-Lightning forward and former Penguin Ryan Malone returned to the lineup after missing seven games due to an "upper-body" injury.
-Panthers defenseman Jason Garrison will be sidelined seven to 10 days due to a "lower-body" injury.
-The Capitals demoted forwards Keith Aucoin, Joel Rechlicz and goaltender Braden Holtby to Hershey of the AHL.
-Joey MacDonald made 20 saves for the Red Wings in a 3-1 win against the Stars. Detroit set a new NHL record by winning its 21st consecutive home game.

-Canucks forward Christopher Higgins (right) is expected to return to the lineup tonight against the Avalanche after missing six games due to an illness. Forward Dale Weise is sidelined due to a broken nose.
-The Canucks demoted forward Mike Duco to Chicago of the AHL.
-Jonas Hiller made 17 saves for the Ducks in a 2-1 comeback win against the Wild. Anaheim has won four out of its past five games. Minnesota has lost five in a row.
-Anaheim recalled goaltender Jeff Deslauriers from Syracuse of the AHL and demoted goaltender Iiro Tarkki to Syracuse.
-The Ducks also recalled former Penguins defenseman and Hopewell native Nate Guenin from Syracuse of the AHL.
