MORGANTOWN, W.Va.
6:13 p.m.: Game. Set. Match. With that Devine run it is over as the Mountaineers went up 31-0.
6:05 p.m.: From Mike Casazza of the Charleston Daily Mail...and a fair point, "We're nearing the point where the score and stats are going to give the impression WVU has had a good day."
5:54 p.m.: I think Ivan McCartney might have supplanted Ryan Nehlen on the depth chart. Honestly, I am not kidding, Nehlen was listed ahead of him. McCartney is in the game.
5:43 p.m.: Would anyone else like to see Robert Sands -- for as great as he is -- wrap up sometimes as opposed to always going for a kill shot?
5:31 p.m.: Coastal Carolina just attempted a 47-yard field goal. Down 17-0. In the third quarter. Against a Division I team. Why?
5:20 p.m.: TD Jock Sanders. 17-0 WVU.
5:18 p.m.: So, West Virginia causes a fumble on the opening kick of the second half. That was exciting, apparently. So exciting that someone --- someone clueless --- in the press box began cheering. A veteran scribe in the press box, a fellow who is a bit, well, short-tempered, took it upon himself to end such cheering. Kudos to him.
5:05 p.m.: West Virginia had the ball 10:12 in the second quarter -- and scored 3 points. There is your story.
4:58 p.m.: Again, ho hum. 10-0 at the half.
4:46 p.m.: Game on.
Coastal interception and return put them into WVU territory with just over a minute left before half and down 10-0. West Virginia dodged a bit of a bullet, though, as Coastal -- give them credit for taking a crack at the end zone -- threw an INT on the next play.
4:40 p.m.: That was a bit odd. Tavon Austin was rolling toward what looked to be a TD before the ball was jarred loose and he fumbled out of the end zone. Touchback. Again, WVU looks below par on offense, but very good on defense. Seems from up here that, like I said before, the Mountaineers are playing it close to the vest on offense. Check that, they are playing it maybe even inside the vest on offense. Not showing anything.
4:36 p.m.: The consensus is the press box is this: West Virginia is playing a bit, um, conservative, on offense. At least that's a kind way to put it -- I won't repeat how some of the old-school, veteran reporters are describing it.
4:27 p.m.: The Mountaineers make it 10-0. Ho-hum.
4:22 p.m.: What was Bradley Starks thinking on the block in the back? To me, the guy makes a lot of knucklehead plays. He just cut a big gain in half on a block in the back that did not need to be made.
4:19 p.m.: Cole Bowers is in the game now at RG. This will be interesting to see. To me, I don't know if the young man is ready. He gets an opportunity now to show the coaches what he can do. Up until this point, the right side -- with Jobe at guard -- has been so-so.
4:12 p.m.: Still waiting for the WVU offense to go vertical ......
4:05 p.m.: When Woods caught that TD pass, he became the first Mountaineers player to have his first reception as a TD catch since Tyler Urban did it in 2008.
3:57 p.m.: A bunch of presnap penalties by Coastal. Did they know they were playing this week? Jeez.
3:53 p.m.: A few things -- the flip chart is wrong; Pat Miller is No. 6...which is still a duplicate number, as Will Johnson wears it. Also, that TD catch by J.D. Woods was the first catch -- of any sort -- of his career.
3:45 p.m.: Just one gripe -- and you have heard it before from me. Tavon Austin and Pat Miller both wear No. 1; Robert Sands and Brad Starks both wear No. 2 -- they need to do something about that. Come on guys, change it up, you all play a good deal.
3:35 p.m.: Brandon Hogan carried a sledgehammer out on the field and slammed it down in pregame warmups. That was kind of strange, perhaps a new ritual.
3:32 p.m.: And another photo from the lot...there seems to be -- gasp -- alcohol involved.

3:02 p.m.: Got a photo sent from Bryan Bond, as he is tailgating. Bond is the president of the WVU Pittsburgh Alumni Chapter. And, by the way, you can shoot me your photos at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it .

2:55 p.m.: Crowd slowly filing into Mountaineer Field. I'm saying there will be 54K here today.
2:28 p.m.: Got a Q&A question submitted (as you can do here: http://www.post-gazette.com/sports/wvu/questions/qaform.asp)
QUESTION: How much would the offense change if/when Brunetti or Johnson were to play? Is there a package to allow for their running ability?
-Jeff in Akron, Ohio
COLIN DUNLAP: I don't see it changing much; I think the offense will remain the exact same when the backups get in there. I also don't expect any surprise today; lots and lots of straighforward, vanilla stuff out of these Mountaineers. Although, I will stick to my claim that Brunetti is miles ahead of Johnson --- about as many miles as it is from Morgantown to Kountze, Texas. All this stuff your hear about those two guys being "neck and neck," well, I ain't buying it.
2:25 p.m.: You probably already knew this, but WVU is wearing blue tops, gold pants:

2:04 p.m.: As was first reported on this blog and at Post-Gazette.com just before 11:30 a.m. today, Pat Lazear is out for this game. Branko Busick is listed at No. 2 on the depth chart. But, a thought here -- don't at all be surprised to see Anthony Leonard shift over and get the start in the middle and then Najee Goode then get the start on the strong side in Leonard's place. Just a thought, but that could happen. There is definite confidence in Branko, but if the staff wants to go with experience, they will go this way.
1:20 p.m.: A thought here: It is very, very, very windy. Could this impact the passing game for both teams? Says here that it will. To what degree is the real question. But, I am telling you it will have an impact to some degree.
12:54 p.m.: Bad news for one of West Virginia's football greats: Pat White has been cut by the Miami Dolphins.
12:31 p.m.: Lots and lots and lots of RVs already in the parking lot on the hospital end of the stadium. Have to say, the weather is absolutely wonderful.

12:10 p.m.: Sitting in the press box at Mountaineer Field watching this Miami (Ohio) v. No. 4 Florida game. A thought: If these two teams, in the middle of this game, just stopped what they were doing and had a spelling bee, would Miami be favored in the spelling bee as big as Florida was in the football game?
12:04 p.m.: With Lazear out, it brings something interesting into play --- how will Branko Busick perform in his first start? To me, this isn't much of a dropoff. Now, I know what you are saying --- "Branko is young and Lazear is established." I get that. But, I am telling you, I don't see a huge dropoff, just don't.
11:36 a.m.: Another personnel that has trickled my way from a source: Look for Eric Jobe to start at right guard, as he's beaten out Cole Bowers at that position. But, Bowers should get some reps with the first unit.
11:18 a.m.: The Post-Gazette has learned that West Virginia starting senior linebacker Pat Lazear will not play in today's game against Coastal Carolina.
Lazear is still nursing a leg injury that he sustained when he was accidentally leg-whipped by a teammate in a drill two weeks ago. In his place, redshirt freshman Branko Busick is expected to make his first career start.
11:08 a.m.: OK, let us dispel an enormous myth about a game a little later this month. The LSU game is not confirmed to be a night game as of yet, it still could be a day game. The determination as to kickoff of that game will be made 12 days before it is to be played, Sept. 13. So, with that said, I have been hearing a lot of people talk about those night games in Baton Rouge -- well, West Virginia might not even play a night game in Baton Rouge.
11 a.m.: Get you started with photo of the Pride of West Virginia warming up:
