Keith Patterson was hired at West Virginia today to join the defensive staff, as expected.

Patterson was the DC for Pitt last season as well as the linebackers coach and was named interim head coach when Todd Graham bolted for Arizona State.

As for his title at WVU? The suspense continues...

Coach Dana Hologorsen, we're told, will announce the titles of all of his hires on March 5 at the team's spring football luncheon.

Patterson highlights:

• The Pitt defense was ranked No. 3 nationally in sacks in 2011 with 3.31 per game, and was tied for No. 12 in tackles for loss with 98.
• A former high school coach in Oklahoma and Texas, Patterson spent eight years at Tulsa prior to his stint at Pitt.

Patterson: “Working at a place like West Virginia University with all of its history and tradition is a great opportunity for me,” Patterson said. “Coming off a conference championship and the Orange Bowl win, it’s an exciting time here, and now we have an even greater opportunity as we head into our first year in the Big 12 Conference. I have great respect for Coach Dana Holgorsen and what he has accomplished, and I appreciate and look forward to being a member of the Mountaineer football staff.”

Holgorsen: “Keith has had a lot of successful years coaching at some great programs, both at the college and high school levels. His years of experience in developing players and defenses will be an invaluable resource to our program, while his background in Texas and Oklahoma will only add to our recruiting efforts ”.

Great hire and who cares where he jumped from he deserves a break being dumped on by Todd and Penny Graham.
