With letter-of-intent day only two days away, here are the WPIAL and City League football players who have made verbal commitments to Division I-A colleges (FBS). Currently, there are 29 players from the WPIAL/City League committed. A few more will decide in the next few days.

What's with kdka... tv for every wpial kid to committ. I can see the big recruits like Pryor and Shell doing something special... but these press conferences.... now exlusives on TV is ridiculous!!
I think the Holtz thing was something conjured up by EJBorgetti and Pompeani to promote Pitt and Chryst in landing a good recruit... not a Holtz idea.

Yet, not a peep that Pitt pulled the offer to Geter due to tweets!!

I personally like the TV gigs...Brings attention to the kid and the school but mostly to High School Football...is it corny and cheesy..Hell yeah...but its cool to see local kids get big time scholarships..Too bad they dont include this with academic scholarships with local kids..

I'd be interested to see KDKA show kids who get full rides academically to colleges and universities..make it a show! interview the kids, show us what they did to get the scholarship...

btw..Getting an atheltic/academic scholarship is a big deal...it should be celebrated!

I hope Cox realizes he may receive some backlash when he doesn't pick Pitt. It takes some guts to go on Pittsburgh TV and not pick the hometown team.

Sev - Your post touched a nerve with me. I agree 100%. We should be promoting the kids with academic scholarships. Take Donte Ford from Sto-Rox (issues well documented there) who had offers/interest from the Ivy League. Even thought he is heading to Syracuse, KDKA should put him in the spotlight.

BTW, I would recommend that you head to the PG's education section to see what is going on in education. They do a nice job over there reporting education.

note the list above does not contain too many AAA players - and possibly no AAA defensive players

Maybe he is going to pick PSU???
However, seems MSU is top of the list...
I don't think this kdka tv thing is Cox's idea... it is pompeani/kdka idea.
I'm ok with it... but don't water it down. 1 per year... or have a 30min show with top 10 players announcing at once sort of like us army game.

at NA Walker will typically gets the kids together (at one time - at the school) - the kids sit at a table and then announce their intentions

in 2010 Robert Kugler might have been different - he committed earlier

If the PG covered academic scholarships, it could/would be a lengthy process ... relatively large number of kids qualify for academic scholarships

Ironman... PSU recruiting class recovered nicely this year amidst controversy.
Pitt, albeit it decent quality, only 15 last count..

I think the WPIAL was very under recruited this year. The 2012 class has a lot more talent than what is listed here.There are a lot of good players still out there who can play at this level.I know the game isn't over yet but if these guys don't go D1, a lot of the D1AA and D2 schools are going to get some great players.

I think this was a regular occurance with many teams in late 60's/early 70's.
