Jeannette football player Demtrious Cox got back from one Big Ten Conference school today. Tonight, he is expected to announce he will attend another Big Ten school.

Cox (pictured) will go on KDKA Channel 2 television to announce his college choice. Sources said Cox will announce for Michigan State.

Cox (6 feet 1, 195 pounds), one of the top defensive backs in the state, got back today from a visit to Wisconsin. Besides Michigan State and Wisconsin, Cox's other finalists were Ohio State and Penn State. He was recruited to play defensive back, but also played quarterback for Jeannette, helping the Jayhawks reach the WPIAL Class AA title game.

Cox rushed for 1,263 yards and threw for 910. He is an excellent athlete, scoring his 1,000th-career point in basketball a few days ago.

I went into my memory bank today and came up with this: I believe Cox will be the first Jeannette player to play for Michigan State since .... Maurice Chamberlain? That's what my memory says.

Chamberlain played on some great Jeannette teams in the 1980s with Parade All-American quarterback Dante Wiley and went on to be a letterman at defensive back at Michigan State.

Mike White - I played against Dante Wiley in high school. Those Jeannette teams were loaded with talent, Roy and Larry Hall, Dante Wiley, Mark Brasco, etc. Remember those guys.

Brasco went to Pitt. Didn't Wiley go to Nebraska? I never knew what happened to him. I think he was an academic casualty.

Read Margo Malone of NH committed to Syracuse.
Is KDKA/Pomp going to have a newscast on it??

I believe two kids (boys) from 2010 NH XC team went to Syracuse - Kush and Silenieks

Would have liked to see him in a Pitt uni - but can't complain about MSU.

I know that PITT gets it's fair share of WPIAL players however they still don't get the bluest of blue chippers from the WPIAL. This is why they can't compete at the national level. Until Pitt starts getting the best in the WPIAL they we never get the best from some other city. Over recent years the best of the best left town. I'm mean guys like Stephan Wiezneski and Pryor and Jordan Hall, Kuglar i could go on and on. I mean i'm happy about Shell and Holtz they are in the upper tier from the WPIAL but way more get away. If the new coach is going to be a big winner here, he must start to get more of the top players from the WPIAL just like COX who just got away again..

agree - but this year Pitt did get Shell, Bisnowaty, and Holtz.

Pitt needs more kids that can block and tackle - and Bisnowaty and Holtz should especially help the team.

Ironman, I understand Cox is a highly rated recruit... I'm not big on TV announcements for HS kids.

Also, big loss for Pitt. If I had to choose between Cox or Rippy... I'd choose Cox from what I heard of Cox as a playmaker.
